Below are some of the most common questions relating to tanning indoors. If your question isn't answered here, please email (info@isletans) us anytime and we will get back to you in less than 24 hours.

Q. Is tanning indoors safe?

A. It our opinion at Isle Tans that whether you choose to tan indoors, or outdoors, your skin is absorbing UV Radiation and therefore it is no safer tanning inside than it is to tan outside. Tanning indoors however, is a controlled environment and at Isle Tans we take every precaution to guide our customer's on the proper tanning bed setting to prevent sunburn. While tanning indoors, a good quality moisturizer should always be applied prior to your session and lips and eyes should be protected at all times.

Q. Is there an age limit to tan in a tanning salon?

A. There is no age law in the state of Colorado. In our salon however, we strictly adhere to a minimum age of 14 years old. Customer's under the age of 18, must have their parent or guardian present when they initially sign up in order to tan in our establishment and all customer's under the age of 18 may only tan according to our recommendations.

Q. Can my medication affect my tan?

A. Yes. You should always consult your pharmacist if you are taking ANY medication for ANY reason prior to tanning indoors.

Q. Can I tan if I am pregnant?

A. You should always consult your doctor prior to tanning if you are pregnant.   The main reason that you should not tan while pregnant has to do with the heat from the units.   Overheating has been associated with some defects of a fetus and therefore any over-exposure to a hot tub, sauna, tanning bed, etc., should be prevented.

Q. Should I use sunscreen or oil while tanning indoors?

A. All outdoor tanning products should never be used indoors.   Outdoor products will actually prevent the tan you are attempting to achieve indoors by putting a film on the acrylic.   The same goes for indoor tanning products, they should never be used outside.

Q. How long will my base tan take and how often can I tan?

A. A base tan or tanning results can typically be seen within 5-10 sessions depending upon your skin tone.   We recommend tanning every other day, and approximately the same time of day.   Colorado State law prohibits tanning in any indoor tanning establishment more than once per day.   Customer's choosing to tan daily should give their skin a minimum of 24 hours in between sessions.

Q. Do I need to wear lotion when tanning indoors?

A. You don't need to wear an SPF (Sun Protection Factor) lotion when you tan indoors because these lotions, by nature, are designed to allow you to spend a longer time in the sun. For example, an SPF 8 would allow you to stay in the sun 8 times longer than you normally could. Since you are controlling your exposure time when tanning indoors, you don't need to use an SPF. You should also avoid using outdoor oils when you tan indoors. These oils will make the acrylic dirty and prevent you from tanning. However, there are products specifically designed for indoor tanning, that help moisturize the skin while helping you tan faster. These can be purchased at most tanning facilities and should be used to help you get the best result possible.
